From July 26 to 27, different departments held the Miting de Avance for candidates running for the school student body, the Supreme Student Government (SSG).

The event began with COMELEC Vice-Chairperson Hannah Otieco’s opening remarks regarding tips on exercising their suffrage. “As a voter, your actions and choices play an important role in this election,” Otieco emphasized.

School Principal Dr. Alexander S. Acosta then delivered an inspirational speech on a leader’s true essence, highlighting its definition to the elections as,

“PSD: Persons for others, Students worth emulating, and Dedicated SSG Officers.”

COMELEC Chairperson Jewel Baluyut first introduced the independent candidates until she reached the president position from both the Sour Party and Click Party. The candidates proceeded to propose their plans for the entire school year.

Starting off, the aspiring Grade 8 representative, Bernice Ventura, presented a list of events that she planned to implement. Both the face-to-face and online events include (1) Return and Earn, (2) Fundraiser for Refill stations, (3) Spirit Week, and many more. Daniel Sansano, an independent candidate running for Peace Officer, followed suit. He suggested (1) Virtual Tournaments, (2) Virtual Field Trip, and (3) Peer Counseling Units. He also insisted on funding some activities as he runs a foundation.

Following through, Miguel Rafael David, the running president of the Sour Party, presented their agenda. He explained that they constructed events focused around three of the four core values that PSD abides by: pro-environment, pro-people, and pro-nation. Sour Party proposed events such as (1) Find a Cause, (2) Beach Clean Up, (3) Share Because We Care, and much more. They also plan to revive SSG staple events, such as the famous Dance for a Cause, Battle of the Bands, and Student Day. David ended his presentation with their party catchphrase, “Vote Straight, Vote Wisely, Vote for the Sour Party!”.

The running president of the opposing Click Party, Maria Theresse Enriquez, then expressed that her party aims to create a fun and memorable school year for everyone through their flexible ideas. Click Party presented its agenda through events such as (1) Gamer’s Base, (2) PSD Skolar, (3) Spirit Week, (4) Online Ukay Ukay, and many more. They also suggested programs such as Bunso’s Play Day, Peer Tutorials, Battle of the Bands, PSD Appreciation Day, and a lot more. With the party catchphrase, “I click, U click, Vote Click!,” Enriquez concluded her proposal.

Through the event, the aspiring candidates have showcased what they all had to offer along with their willingness to lead. Under this year’s new leadership, remember this quote from John C. Maxwell mentioned in the program,

“Leaders become great not because of their power, but because of their ability to empower others.”

One’s choices play a critical role in determining the future of your fellow PSDians, hence it is important to vote wisely among the running candidates.
