As Buwan ng Wika slowly came to an end, the Senior High School (SHS) students of Philippine School Doha (PSD) celebrated the ever so colorful and diverse beauty of our Filipino culture on the 29th of August in their respective classrooms.
The array of beautiful Filipinianas and Barongs worn by the SHS students were truly a sight to behold, but within their classrooms boasted an even greater exemplification of Filipino culture. Each classroom was decorated according to their own theme and performances were also prepared by the students both of song and dance. Aside from that, food from different regions in the Philippines were also prepared. The teachers and judges all indulged in the efforts done by the students and it was evident that they thoroughly enjoyed and appreciated every moment. On the other hand, even if the students were busy preparing for this day, smiles were still plastered on their faces. A runway for the SHS students was also held in the hallways of the Grade 11 students to determine who wore their Filipinianas and Barongs in the most elegant way whilst giving justice to the beauty and culture of the Philippines. The winners are as follow : Dylan Camia and Gail Serrano as the 2nd Runner Up, Thed Hermoso and Djanin Laylay, and lastly, the winners were Jewel Rivera and Zimoun Samson.
Living miles away from our motherland does not equate to forgetting our culture and roots. It should be the reason for us to urge ourselves to display and celebrate our culture even more. This is what the SHS students have done and have never failed to do. PSD always encourages its students to be proud of being a Filipino and it is shown in every facet of their daily life. In the end, wherever we go, our roots always follow us.
