Advocating research adeptness as one of the tenets of the school, the school principal Dr. Alexander S. Acosta served as a keynote speaker in a virtual research seminar entitled “From Thesis Writing to Thesis Publishing” on December 6.

The Senior High School event was moderated by Lawrence Mararac and Ma. Theresse Enriquez who acted as event facilitators.

Dr. Noemi F. Formaran, vice-principal of the SHS department, opened the event by thanking the students for being part of the long list of people dedicated to discovering new knowledge. She also highlighted that these research skills would come in handy as PSDians embark on their future career path.

Reminding students of the importance of rhyme and rhythm in a qualitative paper, Acosta  stressed that although research writing is difficult, one would get used to it as the researcher goes along.

Acosta accentuated four notable elements: Ontology, Epistemology, Axiology, and Methodology as he tackled the significance of philosophical assumptions.

He emphasized IMRAD and its six parts, centralizing the importance of the elaborate presentation to a bold attempt. Elaborating further, Acosta highlighted how to write the part of the discussion, which is the heart of the paper.

Acosta presented an inspirational video, showcasing how research is not a journey done alone.

To conclude, he mentioned a quote back in 2016 exemplifying Qualitative research, “Life can never be quantified but can be qualified through the powerful expression of words; not of numbers— Qualitative research.”

The meeting ended with the awarding of certificates, and as well as the words from the SSG President and one of the moderators, Ma. Theresse Enriquez, as she challenged fellow students to  turn the impossible into possible, widen capabilities as we continue to learn more about the research world.”

The research seminar aimed at marrying the importance of the guidance of competent advisers and the advisees’ gratitude to these professionals for producing world-class research works.
