Philippine School Doha (PSD) honed the leaders through a virtual training seminar conducted on August 21, intending to motivate students to “start within themselves and unleash their inner leader,” as stated by Dr. Alexander S. Acosta, the School Principal.
The newly-inducted SSG President, Ma. Theresse Enriquez, kickstarted the event. She urged the attendees to step up their game and revive the spirit of student governance, highlighting that the seminar aimed to ignite the students’ will to serve and lead.
Acosta then talked about being a leader in this technological world. He accentuated the importance of Transformational Leadership and its 4 elements: inspirational motivation, intellectual stimulation, idealized influence, and individualized consideration.
“Transformational leadership is the kind of leadership that raises one another in transformation and morality,” Acosta stressed.
The parallel sessions created an avenue for participants to have a better understanding of their roles as officers. In the first breakout room, Dr. Wama A. Jorbina discussed conflict management and how to find the middle ground in every situation.
Tackling the 7 C’s of Effective Correspondence: Clear, Concise, Complete, Coherent, Concrete, Correct, and Courteous, Ms. Elena D. Castro spearheaded the second breakout room filled with student secretaries and business managers.
Ms. Laarni C. Pascual of breakout room three guided the treasurers and auditors on planning out their financial obligations inside and outside the classroom.
The fourth breakout room was presided by Mr. Allen A. Rosima, reminding participants that peace is not the absence of conflict but how one handles the situation at hand.
In the last room, Dr. Precioso L. Tano nurtured the leadership mindset of the class officers from the Intermediate Department, fostering their skills as student leaders at a young age.
Mrs. Melissa R. Montayre, Vice Principal of the Office of Student Affairs, concluded the program, highlighting that responsibilities and expectations take hold of one another when working together.
With engaging discussions and effective coaching from the guest speakers, the promising leaders have been equipped with the necessary skills that define what good leadership should be.
