The annual book week celebration commenced in the open court of Philippine School Doha bearing the theme, “Inclusive. Innovative. Interconnected.” from November 3 to 7. Represented by the learning resources department, the PSD Library coordinated with the different school’s academic departments to organize recreational activities promoting books and reading in all levels to promote values of teamwork and community participation. All departments were keen to participate in the week through the many activities prepared by HKLRC related to reading and encouraging students. One of the highlights of these events was the puppet show session featuring the “Red Shoe”, FaceBook Challenge, featured poems such as free verse poetry, blackout poetry, haiku, persona poems, spoken poetry, and response poetry, and lastly, the photographs of the Link’s photojournalists entitled “Emotions”.

It is believed that Illustration techniques help build creative stamina in students. It’s always wonderful to host such events, especially when parents who accompany the children are so receptive. Visual literacy is an important aspect of ‘reading’ a picture book. PSDians were encouraged to further continue their love for books while celebrating their passion for reading. The HK Learning Resource Center serve as a bridge between writers and readers. HKLRC invite people to go on journeys through pages and encourage them to learn about topics unknown. As the book week came to an end, the closing program and awarding ceremony were held in the AVR. The sections who had the most active borrowers per grade level were awarded as well as students who were the most active borrowers from their batch. A series of applauses took place as each student proudly took their respective award. Mrs. Maidie P. Acosta, acknowledged the people who worked vigorously to be able to celebrate this year’s book week celebration with success. Indeed, the annual book week celebration was a huge success. PSDians’ love for reading never ceases as it does not only serve as hobby, but also a passion that led the students to learn the meaning of books.
